There are miles to go before I sleep and yet I am satisfied with what I watched on the telly today in terms of the sporting arena. There was Formula 1, cricket and the North London derby between Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and all the events were keenly contested with some stand out performances.

If you’ve been following the blog then you wouldn’t be surprised with my Mclaren F1 or Lando Norris fixation. I AM A FAN. Check out F1 gives you wings for a recap of the first race with my utter dedication to Lando. Today was the Styrian Grand Prix and Lewis Hamilton won from the start to the finish and Valteri Bottas completed a Mercedes 1-2 after a while. Max Verstappen was third for Red Bull to complete the podium.
If you go on the F1 website then you could’ve voted for the driver of the day at F1.com/vote and it was Sergio Perez for Racing Point but I ‘m pretty sure that the voting ended before the penultimate lap because on the last lap Lando Norris overtook 2 other drivers to finish a creditable fifth after starting from ninth on the grid. He still maintains his position of third in the Driver’s standings.
Cricket is back sans the crowds but it was a riveting contest between bat and ball. West Indies are touring England and won the first test on the fifth day by chasing a target of 200 to win the test in Southampton. Cricket is baseball’s poor cousin for my American friends.
Jermaine Blackwood steered the Windies chase with a well-deserved knock of 95 after Shannon Gabriel’s heroics with the ball by taking a five-for in England’s second innings and was also named as the man of the match.
The noisiest North London derby happened today with Arsenal at Spurs and it was a deserved result for Spurs as they looked more dominant of the two sides. Football is seldom fair but today was an exception. Spurs won it by an odd goal in two after falling behind to Alexandre Lacazette’s shot before Son equalized and then Toby Alderweireld headed home for the victory off a corner.
The race for the top-4 is hotting up in the English Premier League with Manchester United playing tomorrow against Southampton. These are exciting times also with the draws for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League have also been made.
May the best team win!

The North London derby was bit of a boring affair though….

I thought Martinez made plenty of saves and there were goals to boot so wouldn’t say it was boring
